ABOUT ME

Siân Wilde

I am a fully qualified woodwind repairer based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

I have been heavily involved in music since my youth, and having spent many years performing on oboe with numerous ensembles including the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, I went on to study Music at the University of Sheffield. I graduated from my degree in 2009, and continued my studies to receive an MA in Music Management in 2010.

After completing my university education I decided to take a sideways step into the repair industry and embarked on a three year course studying Woodwind Instrument Making and Repair at Newark College. (After spending my teenage years regularly taking my oboe to pieces ‘to clean it’ it seemed a pretty natural step!)

During my time at Newark I gained a vast array of practical experience repairing instruments from all areas of the woodwind family, as well as making a Bb clarinet from raw materials (photos in gallery). As such I feel I am well equipped to tackle almost any challenge that may come my way, as if something is broken or not fit for purpose I can usually either repair, adapt or remake it.

I now live in Walkley with my husband, two young children, and our family dog. I'm still a keen oboist and am a member of the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra.

I currently work between two locations, my home in Walkley, Sheffield, and my parents' home in Scissett, West Yorkshire (the on site childcare is fantastic!). Drop off and collection of instruments can easily be arranged at either location.
